This is a standard design for R.R.Dry Stone masonary Retaining wall to support the hill roads. As normally the maximum length of hill roads are supported by these dry walls which do not use any mortar for masonary, to control the cost. Filling behind the wall has also modelled for explaining purpose, which may be removed. |

To compliment the Stone Turret site family. This Baluster is meant to be placed in an exterior railing type. A caution about the family: for some reason the height of the post MUST be taller than the top rail you are using for the rail family. I don't know why but if you don't specify the Post to be taller than the top rail (using the Top Offset parameter) it will complain at you. Let me know if you have any questions. |

A pattern of cut stone with courses of alternating height, derived from Carl Friedrich Schinkel's neo-classical designs.
Here's an entry on the ancient Roman equivalent and its use in neo-classical works:
opus pseudisodomum: Ashlar with the stone blocks of each course alike, but differing from the stones of other courses in height, length, or thickness, so that while continuous horizontal joints were maintained they varied in height, resulting in masonry laid in regular courses of alternating broad and narrow bands. Alexander ‘Greek’ Thomson used pseudisodomic masonry at the Caledonia Road Church, Glasgow (1856), with the narrow bands projecting slightly from the face of the wider bands, emphasizing the horizontal qualities of the building. © A Dictionary of Architecture and Landscape Architecture 2000, originally published by Oxford University Press 2000.
