file size: 824 KB....yes, thats right, KB. I have 18 separate "zones" that I link into one master file so the file size is tiny. However, to even open up the file with that many links you need at least 8 gigs of RAM requiring of course a 64-bit system. I had a quad core with 4 gigs previously and that couldnt even handle the file or manage any renderings.

So, how did you build the model? Floors for sidewalks, toposurface for streets, massing for buildings, subregion for water?

this is fantastic!  nice job.  when you say 6 months of work, was this "on the clock?"  what i mean is, was this billable or did you do this for 6 months on lunch breaks, at home, et cetera?

my firm has been talking about doing this for our city but they think it is too expensive.

again, great job!

some was billable time, like if it was for a shadow study of a highrise project, animated solar study, wind study, skyline impact or zoning studies....but most was for office standards so that we could link our highrises into the city for renderings, etc.

it was a good project to undertake while work has slowed down due to the economy....it definitely will keep you busy when the money for new projects dry up a bit

Awesome work! Our company is working on a few project in SF. It it possible for you to upload the revit file for one of the zones from your model? more precisely Presidio Heights, Walnut street and Jackson street. That would be great!
