Please help me if you can ... I've searched the forum, and don't see a question that addresses my issue. I have gone into "Import/Export Settings", under the "Category" heading of "Walls" and created a new "Layer" (A-Wall-Finish) and applied that new "Layer" to Sub-Categories "Finish (4)" and "Finish (5)". Along with the new "Layer" is a new "color ID", so that when it is exported to AutoCad, the "Finish (4)" and "Finish (5)" components will be a different layer than "A-Wall". However, everytime I have done this, the entire wall assembly comes in as layer "A-Wall". Anyone know what I am doing wrong? I've searched the help section of Revit, but am afraid I am looking for the wrong thing.

Go to File: Export: Cad Formats Click on Options Click on Layer settings Scroll down to walls and you should be able to pick or make up a new layer for the finishes to export to. I'm sure that there is another way to change the export setting but I cant think of where it's located off the top of my head. HTH Nick

What you have suggested is exactly what I have done ... seems that Revit is ignoring the "new" layer that I have created ...

Have you tried creating a new layer maping file? It might be that Revit is defaulting back to the AIA standard rather than using your modifications. See File: Inport/Export Settings: Export Layers DWG/DXF... Try editing that file and then save it under a differnt name. You should then be able choose that new file from the layer and property settings on the export options dialogue box. If that doesnt work then Im not sure. Have you updated to the latest build, 08-3 (dont recall the number string)? You could also try seindg it to Autodesk/ your reseller and see what they have to say about it.

I started with the AIA file ... saved as a new file name ... would hate to start from scratch .... Will send this question to Autodesk retailer tomorrow .... Not sure if I have the latest update ... but I'm pretty sure my computer is set up for auto-update. I'll check on that now ...

I think that you actually have to download the build from autodesk or your reseller, uninstall the old revit and reinstall the new. So i dont think that it will auto update. Sometimes I find that these things are just quirks in the program... Nick
