HiI am using Revit to design an officebuilding. I wondered wheter there is a way to make Revit automatically divide a wall into minor pieces when the wall encounters a column. For example: I have a row of columns and need to put walls in between the individual columns, is it possible to draw one long wall over the row of columns and let Revit sort out the details? As I am new to the system I realise that there may be an obvious answer to my question, but I can't quite figure it out myself.Thank you for your helpJohannes

It was working fine in Revit2008. When inserting wall and than structural columns - the columns were cutting the walls out and were always visible. In Revit 2009 unfortunetely this doesn't work well. I hope Autodesk will fix this bug soon. M.Soral

I am using Revit Architecture 2010 and for the most part have not had any problems with wall-column interface appearances. However I am currently working on one file where walls crash through every structural column without visual clipping (see attached). Model graphics style is set to hidden line. I tried to find a parameter within both the column and wall families to have the wall stop at the column edges, but could not find one. However, if I open a new file, then draw a wall and column, it works fine. What am i missing? Thanks, Carl

Structural columns by design in Revit do not clean up when intersected by a wall. If you want multiple wall segments between the structural columns simply model it that way. (hint: copy multiple, array, group etc.). Architectural columns on the other hand act as "wrapping" elements for the layers in the wall set to "wrap". They are also room bounding objects. Arch. columns will break the wall graphically into multiple segments, but it will still be one wall. The Revit theory is that architects use architectural columns and structural engineers use structural columns. Most likely the architect will have the structural model linked to the architectural model and things will work out fine as long as everyone understands there are two types of columns in Revit and what their purposes are. Why then do structural columns actually clean up wall intersections sometimes? I can't figure out a pattern of why it sometimes works and sometimes not. Here is another example of structural columns automatically cutting wall segments without me having to do any special splitting/copying. -Carl
