I'm assuming you are talking about custom patterns as simple patterns can be easily changed.
When importing any pattern you can change the scale once imported by using the scale control at the bottom of the pattern settings window...
But yes you must import it first then fiddle with the scale afterwards.

thanks mr spot
let me see if i can clarify this further: when i go to fill patterns and apply say concrete to a wall i find out that the pattern does not show densely enough in the drawing so what i was hoping i could do is to select the fill pattern in the list click edit and in the modify properties box enter in a new name and change the scale .the options are grayed out in the box so is there anyone around this? and yes it has to be custom i suppose
thanks

Not there is no such dialog box for already imported pat files. In this case (for concrete), you would need to choose import then navigate to your revit.pat file, select concrete then select the appropriate scale...
This is the only time you can scale a fill pattern.

Similar issues and I see that Chris has quite a bit of knowledge on this topic. Hope you don't mind my tagging on.
I haven't been able to scale a pattern on import. The scale box remains grayed out. Any idea why?

Click in the name box after you select the import pattern. The scale box will then become active.

I had a similar question. I am trying to create an exterior look of vertical 1x4 Battens @ 20" O.C . I haven't seen any pattern similar here at revitcity. I can only create a single line with a Simple pattern. Can I create my my own custom pattern? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
