We have a building that has a large atrium with several bridges on some of the upper floors. The views of the upper levels in plan are somewhat confusing due to the void/solid issue. Does anyone have a good way of indicating the voids using light shading? Filled regions is a possible way to do it but they can be a pain at times. We've also considered creating a thin floor with a surface texture on it indicating the void but then that screws up our building sections. Any ideas out there?

Why not just put a texture on the floors (tile patterns, carpet hatch, whatever), that way the absence of texture will indicate the opening...that and a big note that says "open to below". :-)

The idea is to shade the voids, NOT the floors. We're doing a renovation of an existing building with lots of demolition in the floor areas, hence the need for little addtional "clutter" in those areas. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Do you really need to show that depth? BIM is great but sometimes you don't want to use all the bells and whistles. Why not limit your view depth in the void area and use a symbollic line X in the opening?

How about this (Assuming third floor is the area you want to see the grayed out portion and the atrium goes down to the first floor-replace "first" and "third" floors with whatever levels you need to): 1. In the third floor plan, go to view properties and change your view range so that the Bottom and Level both have first floor selected. 2. In a 3D or section, select the first floor (left click) 3. Double click on the third floor view in the project browser. 4. Right click in the third floor plan (empty area) and select override graphics in view, select element, and change the surface pattern to solid, pick a color and say OK. The only issue with this is if you have anything else in that atrium on the first floor walls, furniture, etc), you'll need to hide it in the view. This will however gove you the "look" you are trying to get. Let me know if it works. Cheers.
