i was looking at this http://www.dgcad.com/Revit9-KeyNotes.asp

and i had ago myself at editing the keynote for drawings, i can edit the materials part but when i label parts it still has say F10    102mm Brickwork for a wall.

in the wall properties it has keynote as F10.

my question is, how can i add keynotes or make it so it only says 102mm Brickwork, ie there is no reference.

i worked this out today and will post here for further information.

you can edit your Kenotes file, it is found here C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Autodesk\RAC 2008\Metric Library or Imperial the file is called RevitKeynotes_GBR.txt or may differ for USA Cryingnon metric) is the .txt file in the Metric folder.

within this file you can edit materials to what you like

F10/110 Clay facing brickwork F10you change the above to F10/110 102mm Facing Brickwork F10note you must keep the F10/110 and F10 between the label/text/description

once you have set up all your materials, you need to make some changes to the keynote settings.

the first image shows the default keynote on a wall within Revit 2008 Architecture

as you will see you have the ref code and the description, this ref code is important to remember.

you can turn this ref code off by doing the following - see the 2nd imageclick edit properties button Cryingnext to where it has Keynote Tag) then edit/new and untick Vis - Keynote Value then click Ok

you will notice that the ref code has gone but left a big gap to the description text, to edit this you will need to do the following

click on a keynote within the drawing and then click the edit family button and click Yes to open now all you do is drag the description text to where the ref code text and vice versa

see pictures 3 and 4

click load into project and your keynote should now be like pic 5

hope this will be of some help
