Can anyone tell me how to set a parameter in an edited family to turn an object on or off with just a check box.  For example...some windows should not have trim (i.e. when set in stone walls).  Can I edit the window family and have a parameter to turn the trim on or off?  If so How do I do this?  Thanks,

Lorne

Create a yes/no parameter in the family.  %Then you can individually set different elements to be visible based on that parameter.   To do - within the family, select the element properties then click on the little box on the right of the visible line and select your y/n parameter.

Can you do this with a raster image?  I want to have a "signature on/off" parameter on my title block but there doesn't seem to be a visibility parameter for the image.  is there a work-around or is it just not possible?

I'm working in Revit Architecture 2009...

 Thanks!

Did you try placing the jpg in a family and turning that family on/off?

Thanks - I just tried it, and I was able to link the visible parameter to my signature on/off parameter, but now it doesn't show up whether the box is checked or not...not sure if I did something stupid or whether it's image related.

Hello WWHub and guys.

Can you be a bit more elaborate ? I can't figure how to make this work.

I made a small family (A) and inserted it into other family (B).

Inside (B) I select (A) and click on "family types" button which opens up the family types and Parameters dialog. Under "add" I made a new "type/Common/yesNo/Other parameter named A. It then show s me the result with a check box under "Other".

I then import family B into a view.

Inside the view I see the family B with A visible.

I made a duplicate of B with the check box of A ticked. The results on both are the same. The nested family A never being invisible.

Would guys made it sound simple but where have I missed ?

Thx

I

Create Family A. Create Family B. With Family B Open Click Load into Project and load it into Family A. With Family A open you should now see Family B. Click on Family B, go to and in properties, find the Visible Parameter. Click on grey box in far right of it. Click on Add Parameter at bottom. Create A new Parameter - say "Family B On/Off", select and "group parameter under "( perhaps Visibility might be best), choose Type or Instance and and click OK.Load into project model and test.
