Is there a viewer program that you can look at Revit files. I know you can save the file as a 3D DWF and allow people to look at it. Is there a viewer that you can use to read only a rvt file?

Revit uses the Revit program itself as a viewer. Any one can download the Revit program and run it in Demo mode as a viewer. You just can't save or print. i don't know why they don't provide something that is much smaller in size as a viewer. HTH

I send this link to clients along with the dwf file and if they are somewhat computer literate, it seems to work well. You have to write out each view however. I use it only for 3d views and pdf all plan views. It's for the dwf free viewer.

I think it easier to get the keys to Fort Knox than find a stand-alone viewer for Revit files. The same goes for a stand-alone viewer for ArchiCad and MicroStation objects. Whilst there are viewers from (normally) reliable sources around which open claim to handle rvt files, the actual result is in conflict with thier claim. I've virtually exhaushed all my search engines on this erstwhile simple request "rvt viewer" (and other combinations) only to discover that the ".rvt" file extention is ALSO used for medical databases AND geological sub-routines AND a few other non-CAD programs. So much for standardisation and cross-cooperation. At the risk of ending up on the Gitmo Hilton guest list, has anyone got another explorable source?

Look into the dwf viewer / markup that is free from AutoDESK. You can write out very small REVIT 3d files that are fully functional in 3d, they can be sectioned, dismantled, measured and there is a full indexed listing of all the project components that allows you to isolate and find the components. The markup allows the viewer to add view specific comments. Using simple drag and drop, you can also embed 2d drawing images (pdf, jpg, dwf ...) and even other document files into this 3d dwf file. AutoDESK also will show you a way to share this file on-line in a webpage so the end user doesn't have to install the viewer software.
