when you export the model to other software,you will ues API, good luck!

Actually API stand for 'Application Programming Interface" It is a way to add new commands to Revit via the Microsoft .NET framework. Third party applications have been developed via the API most notably for Revit Structure, but more seem to be on the way for Revit Architecture as well. See the Resources section of this website for links to a few of them.
