Is there a quick and easy way to find out the building perimeter (for code analysis)?

depends on how you modeled your building. Have you tried "area plan".

How would you get the perimiter from an area plan?

Create an "Area Plan" Then use "Area Boundary"- use the Lines option to draw the boundary yourself- rather than letting Revit create the plan for you. Draw one big boundary around the perimeter. Use "Area" to drop an Area element into the centre of the boundary (much like adding a Room). Select the Area element- right click and select Element Properties. There you go. Regards, Ian

Hi I am trying to read of the total length of a selection of mutiple lines in order to read a perimeter length that does not form an enclosed region - is there a way to do this? Thanks G

Make sure your lines are model lines (meaning when you select the lines you wish to find the total length of, you'll have to convert them using the button that shows up in the ribbon if they are detail lines)
Then Under the Ribbon Modify Tab > Measure , there is a button with a cube and a ruler and a drop down arrow. The tool/action itself is called "Measure along an element. CLICK THIS BUTTON
Finally, hover over one of the model lines in your chain and click TAB on the keyboard until all of the lines highlight blue. Then click on the line and at the top left it will give you the total length.
*whew* 3 clicks and pressing tab however many times you need to get to the right lines. Boy do I miss CAD and shortcutting the list command to L and having polylines. Used to be 1 click and one key command. Really wish revit would let you hotkey with one key instead of 2+

Just for sharing idea
I use Area Plan for architectural model development.whatever plan u work, model is same. in Area plan u can draw area boundary easily like detail lines, and get perimeter and area with tag or on properties bar for reading......
easy steps
