You can create levels using the levels tool that don't have plans associated to them. (they just show up black instead of blue because they aren't a hyperlink). Just copy one of you existing levels in elevation OR when using the level tool untick "make plan (can't remember the exact wording)" when you are drawing the new levels. Symbols/drafting items can't be placed outside of the crop region except text and datums... HTH.

Mr spot, While devloping a CD set we tend to add many elevation markers such top of plate, top of steel, top of parapet etc... After a while adding all of these levels, although no floor plans are created, seems to get pretty messy. It creates difficulty especially when you are trying to assign a base level to an object that you would like to insert i.e. door window etc., and you have to scroll through thirty different base levels to find the right one. Is there any way to create a detial level, meaning a detal datum line that won't create a level as well as not creating a floor plan? We tried creating one in our office called dummy level, and inserted into our project, but it doesn't work correctly all of the time. Thanks in advance.

Hmm... Well when i do this I typically use spot elevations symbols rather than a level line. You have a couple of other options though... Named reference planes (make sure you set them to print in your print settings) Other option would be to link a file with the extra levels in it only that way you can work without those constraints in your model but still have the datums show the way you want them to.

I can't seem to get the spot elevations to be used as levels. Meaning, I can only place spot elevations on plan not in section/details. I guess we will try to refine our dummy elevations and post it once we have it right. Thanks anyways.
