We just had a user complain about plot times for an elevation that had shaded with edges and shadows on. It was taking 25-40 minutes to make a pdf plot....! I opened the project and it took an exceptionally long time to open the view. When I clicked on the elevation marker in plan and turned on its crop regions, the crop region wasn't visible. When I cut a new elevation, everything was fine. After talking to the user, I found out that the elevation was a dependent view. I went to the original elevation but it had the same problems. We deleted the dependent view and all was ok. My conclusion is that REVIT must have to manage both views in memory whever doing anything in either view. Obviously shaded views with shadows takes longer but other views may also have problems so watch out ! Check this out and make sure it won't cause you problems too.
