I am trying to create a template based on a previous project that we have done. The file size is huge (17M compared to about 3M for standard templates), even after purging all of the families. What is making the file so large?

Weird, I always assumed it was the families. As our project file bloats up during CDs, we usually do a purge to drop all unused families that we want preloaded in the template for quick-project-startup and that typically drops the size considerably. So I guess I'm posting mostly to track this thread because I'm interested in the replies. I'd love to have a 17 meg template though, our's currently sits at 34 megs.

Thanks for that - perhaps I'm too concerned about the file size and it is not mauch of an issue.
