I cant figure out why the crown on the [plan] left doesnt display. they were created one after the other as extrusions, same visibitily settings, defined as casework, casework is ON in the plan. Thoughts???

Yeah i've experienced graphic glitches like this before. Can be cause the cut plane is set to be exactly on the element, try adjusting slightly to make sure the cut plane is actually cutting the element. Otherwise you may have to resort to using the linework tool on the particular lines you wish to display.
HTH.

I agree with your theory re cut planes, but in order to create the component>solid you have to specify a work plane, and both sides have the same work plane, exactly the same height off the floor.
