2008. I feel I'm close to figuring it out, but I can't get it. I want to have a yes/no parameter for a text that says "TYP" for a callout head. It seams like callout heads are different from other tags. I want the "TYP" to be an instance parameter so that I can have it show up for only those details that are typical throughout the project. I set up a separate family type called "Typical" with the yes/no for "Typ" checked and when I select a callout and modify the properties it doesn't give me the option for the family type. Is it the case that you can only have a global change for the family under Settings>View Tags> Callout Tags?

2008 You are right, you cannot add a TYP/SIM parameter to a system family (huge wishlist item that needs to be addressed). But Revit has a built-in functionality to address TYP & SIM section/detail/elevation/callouts. Look at the element properties for the System Family: Section. The Type parameters has one called "Reference Label" It is populated with "TYP." as a default. When you create another section, on the Options Bar, select Reference other view, and select a section, callout of a section, or drafting view name from the drop-down menu next to it. It will then place the reference label to the upper right of the section bubble and will fill it in with the view # & sheet in which the refering view is placed. You may create another section family which I call Building Section SIM - here I change the parameter from TYP to SIM. As long as you tell it that it is a reference of another view, it will link to that view AND label it TYP/SIM. HTH

i figured that was the problem. actually, i think of sim details and typ. details as separate concepts, so i'd prefer to have both options used throughout, rather than one-or-the-other. this change of a system family is not near as big of a deal as others though. you're right, they REALLY DO need to address this. thx for the reply

Now I thought I had figured this out in 2009. I created a new callout tag with parameters setup like the first gentleman described. SIM. ; OPP. HAND and NOTHING. see images below. I will try to upload a video showing my issue if it is small enough. Problem is I reference a detail in the second callout bubble on a different sheet so that I may have thenew callout say OPP. HAND but both callouts, the original one I referenced from and the second one, both change at the same time. Although I can change the lines of the callout bubble sepearatley. Any help would be much appreciated. Jaysyn
