Version: Revit Architecture 2008

Problem: I'm importing Autocad details with previously lineweights setup and they arrive fine with nice looking lineweights.  But when I partially exploded them the lineweights just became too heavy

when using autocad details in Revit it is recommened that you do not explode them. not only do have problems as you mentioned, but also you add a lot of baggage to your Revit file. you should  link in any Autocad details and if you need to modify the detail you should modify the detail in Autocad and re-load it. at some point you will need re-create all your main details that are not model based as pure Revit 2d dratfed details.

i don't have access to Revit at the moment, but you can try the linework tool to see if you can change the lineweight of the lines in question

Linking the file is ok but there is a way around this that nobody seems to write about.  First, you need to be aware of how REVIT treats imported dwgs in different views.

  1. If you import a dwg in a floor plan, the import is 3d.  If you import in a detail, the result is 2d.
  2. When you explode a dwg, all of the lines & text come in as new REVIT line styles and text styles and will be automatically named by REVIT.

Now for the little known fact!   You can delete the linestyles and it doesn't delete the lines !!!  Experiment with this to see what happens.

When you delete the linestyle from the plan / 3d, the lines all default to lines (model).   All 2d lines become "thin lines" which you can now change to other medium ... thick, whatever lines.

I usually like to import my 2d cad stuff into a junk Project1 rvt file and clean it up there.  Much easier to do then just copy clip into my project.
