I am creating a place holder for a piece of factory equipment. I created an "Electrical Equipment" component - just a basic 3D box. I then finished that component and then added text right on top of the box. I then grouped the text and the newly created component (box) together. Now, when I go to move this new group. The text and the box float independent of eachother. Almost like two boxers in a ring floating around eachother. Why do they not stay together as one group when I move the group?

I think it has something to do with the fact that I included text (not model text created within the component) when forming the group. Thanks, Boyd j.

Why didn't you do this as a family? The wording could have been 3d text in the family or you could have added a parameter that you read and tagged in the model.

have not really gotten that much into creating families...i know that might have been a better way of doing it. I did not want to use 3d text because i am always thinking about the size of the file and the load it might have on my computer - especially when the model becomes rather full. I will try it in a family and make the leap into family creation. thanks for your comment

I have the same problem of model texts in groups that when moving they float separated from the group. Make families is not a solution for me because I'm creating 60 simple diferent boxes with a name for mechanical equipment in each one. I need to arrange them in the most efficient way but every time I move them the text is somewhere else. It is there some property that tie permanently the text to the model?

Add a parameter to your family and then use a boxed tag to tag it. When you select "tag all not tagged" and use no leader, the tag will center over the family. If the item gets moved far away, the tag will show a question mark. When that happens, click on the tag - click on leader then click it back off and the tag will move to the family.
