I am building some lighting fixtures in the revit ceiling mounted fixture family ... I am having all sorts of problems constraining angled lines and arcs to the necessary ref planes. The hole in the ceiling (opening)appears 4metres above the ceiling in the test model. The parts of the light diffusor I have made need to be constrained to the nth degree or they wing thier way off to the 4metre mark also. I am doing something wrong. The symbolic lines need to be drawn in plan and not RCP. How do I constrain arcs, angled lines and does constraining a lines end points to reference plains and lines work? Is there a way of constraining a radius.

1. Do you need to adjust any elements in the family (are they parametric)?
Create the lighting fixture as a generic model and load it in the lighting family...
You cannot a radial dimension, but you can dimension to an outer face and lock it. I typically have a couple of reference planes located at the centre point, then dimension between the reference plane and the circle and then lock it.
Also, there is no need to constrain a line if it isn't going to be flexed or pressure in any way... It helps family size not to overconstrain them.
HTH.
If you still have troubles post an example file and i'll endeavour to have a look.
