I am currently a senior in high school. I am in a CAD class and I love to use Revit. I was wondering what I should do to have a career using revit. Any suggestions on schools or degrees or anything would be very helpful and much appreciated. Thanks.

I'm always glad to hear that we have another Revit user. I'm actually surprised though to hear that a high school is teaching Revit, a lot of colleges don't even offer Revit. As far as looking for a career using Revit, that's kind of a loaded question. Some of your options would be to go to a technical school and get an associates degree is Architectural Drafting or you could go for a non-accredited bachelor’s degree in Architecture or if you’re really ambitious you can go for an accredited degree in Architecture. An NCARB accredited degree would allow you to begin your IDP and eventually take the ARE and become an Architect. I'm currently working on completing my accredited bachelors. If you only want to use Revit and you aren't concerned about becoming an architect I wouldn't recommend the tortuous self flagellation which is architectural school. I'm not sure where you’re from, but I'm from the North East and I would highly recommend the Boston Architectural College or Wentworth Institute of Technology. If you have any other questions I'd be happy to talk to you about a degree in architecture or drafting. I'm a bit of an architectural dork, so I could talk about architecture all day long.Good LuckMatt

As a minimum, you should find a community college or two year Associates degree that has a program in Architectural Design, Engineering or Construction Management. Look for programs that have math and physics requirements instead of just drafting classes like the Technical Trade schools offer. Get a summer job working as a carpenters apprentice, there's nothing like practical experience to understand how buildings are put together. If you are thinking of a degree in architecture, be prepared for 6-8 years of higher education plus another 2-4 years of internships. Good Luck.

Both good previous posts, ill give a little background of my situation. Im still in college I attend or attended rather Akron University in Ohio as a construction management major. My parents are architects (which is where i got my cad start), i have worked in the field and this summer i have had the chance to come to chicago and work for an engineering firm that has just transitioned to revit. that was at the begining of the summer skip ahead to now, i have surpassed most of the employees in knowledge and experience in Revit MEP here and they have offered me a full time job as a revit training manager and reimbursment for school. so it goes to show what a little luck and alot of hard work can do. good luck matt

Currently there are only 1 (now two) highschools in the Nation that I know of that teach Revit. The one other than the one mentioned by Kap12 is Scottsbluff Senior High in Scottsbluff Nebraska. As for colleges there are a very limitied number that have a class focusing on Revit. The one that I know of for sure and is ahead of most colleges in this is the University of Wyoming. There is alot to do with Revit not matter the feild. You can do Structures, Mechanical, and Architectural among many others. If you are leaning towards Structures or Architectural Engineering I would strongly suggest you look into the University of Wyoming. It is by far the front runner of Revit and the usage and is a VERY cost efficient school. I am currently doing research for my masters on colleges teaching Revit so if you have any questions let me know, I would be more than willing to help you find a school with your feild.
