Normally when i orbit about the model in 3D view (holding shift and drag left mouse button), it tends to pivot about the center of the model. I have a drawing that seems to be attaching that center point somewhere way off the view. Nothing has been selected (if i do select something from the model then pivot, it works fine), and another unusual thing is the crop region reverts back to a much larger size after i reset it to crop around the model. It acts as if there is something out in left field that is hidden. I've turned all model and annotation catagories on, I don't have any curtain walls, using Revit 9. Any ideas what i'm missing?

Typically, if you select anything, the model will pivot about that last selection.  Even though you currently have nothing selected.

there may be something out there, but as you say, not visible.  until you figure this out, try turning on the section box, and pull its borders in close.  that way, with crop box off, you'll be closer in.  section box is great for looking inside the model too.

As mentioned earlier, i've selected items on the model and it spins correctly so the last item selected isn't having any effect. Another quirk, i have other saved 3D views that spin as expected but it seems to only be the "new" 3d view when activated from the toolbar that has this issue. Tried to enlarge the section box but still nothing shows up where the new "pivot point" seems to be which is approximately 100' due east of the model.

Have you imported in a CAD drawing? When we bring in CAD drawings from our consultants, they sometimes have elements out in left field. Just a thought.

I do have an imported cad file but i had deleted it however it's still listed under my imported categories. I've checked all views with an expanded crop region hoping to see something but no luck. I think you are on to something though.

I know you said you tuned off crop region, did you zoom to fit to see if anything was out in the middle of nowhere?

I am having the same Rolling Eyeseally* frustrating issue.  I have rotated around my model because I didn't select something first to rotate around, and now it is out of the view.  I have extended my crop region as far as I could go, and still can't find it.

Is there a way to "reset" the 3D view or anything?  At this point, I'm desperate.

First ... you are talking about the stock 3D view ... not a "camera" view.  If so, delete the view then hit the 3D button in your top menu area.

If this is a camera view, then that explains everything.  You do not rotate these the same way.
