Hi

 I am modelling an existing building in Revit however i cannot get my head round editing families to get the door i want, from what i gather, the door consists of a double door, and then an extra panel on either side, i believe i would need to add some sidelights to the double door to get the four panels but how?

If the sidelites are created currently as a sep. family you can load that family into your double door family and place them next to the door, then select the sidelite family and edit its properties, setting its parameters equal to parameters in the host family(there are good tutorials under the help menu on families, I suggest you spend the time and do them all).

I typically create panels for everything and nest them into a "frame family".  So I have a library of typ. door panels and window panels, that can be nested together to create complex assemblies.
