Hello everyone, New to revit and trying to figure out how to make a family of curved trusses. I go into the family editor and I sketch the top and bottom chord as arched and load in HSS steel for the members. Then I sketch the lines for the truss webbing. I save the drawing and when I load the family and place an instance the webbing comes out perfect but the top and bottom chords go flat. Anyone have a tip for me??-would be much appreciated . Thanks Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds-Einstein Would you like to seeeeee my bunghole?-Beavis Shane

You will need to create a sweep for the curved members. So in elevation create the sketched path of the arc, then assign a struct profile to it. Repeat for the bot chord.

Thank you very much. But one more question if I may. I was wondering if this method is used by creating it in place as I do not see a create sweep when I go to File>New>Family to create a rfa file. Just wondering if it could be done that way, I once again appreciate the help. Never squat over an angry cobra. Never squat over a happy cobra either, chances are if you're squatting he's probably not going to be happy long.

Hi Shane, I am modeling some unique trusses for a project and was wondering how you created your own trusses. I have the geometry drawn in cad and was wondering if I could import that drawing and somehow model the trusses using wide flanges. Would love to hear your imput. Thanks! Jing

Hello Jing, Yes...I imported the cad file that had the profiles in it and used the pick lines when creating the shape of my sweep in an elevation view. Wow old thread to find, Revit city is pretty a pretty cool resource, thank you powers that be that created Revit City . Shane Can you spank a sea monkey? - Butthead Moooooo - a cow

Shane, Would you mind telling me step by step how you created a family for the trusses you created? I appreciate it! Thanks, Jing
