Don't use this cost parameter.
In the wall schedule choose calculated value and name it cost per metre (add your own regional setting)
Then select the type to be a number.
Now we need to add a formula:
(Length/1000)*500
This will effectively calculate the cost per metre for each stretch of wall.
Now in sorting and grouping tick grand totals. Title, count and totals.
Then in formatting select your newly created parameter and then tick calculate totals.
THat should do it.
HTH.

I prefer to create another parameter for unit rate (in this case the 500$) in the formula so that I can incorporate different rate for different type of wall.
the formula in this case would be (Length / 1000) * unit rate

For materials, I use the material's cost parameter with the families area parameter. Just remember how the cost relates to area i.e. cost per sf or square yard. Process - Add the Material: Area field and Material: Cost field to your schedule.
- Make a Calculated field called total cost as a currency field.
- Enter the formula: Material: Area/ 1 SF * Material: Cost
- The key here is to cancel out the area unit so you get a consistent currency unit.
- Also remember that there is a space after the colon.
This applies to any assembly cost or unit cost as well. Cancel out the units.

for metric, use 1 m2 not 1 SF ...note the space between 1 and m2. otherwise it throws an error

Hello,
This thread was really helpful as I was having a inconsistent units error.
Still, The calculated value column turns empty after I type the Material:cost anything different than 0.
Why could this be happening?
many thanks
