How about using icons as in ADT pallets to select which door or window etc you want to use. These icons in ADT are actual captured images of each object, which makes it very easy and most of all very quick to select the desired object. I'd also suggest a series of CUSTOMISABLE flyouts, wereby you click on the DOORS button for example, and a vertical or horizontal flyout menu appears displaying captured images of the different doors available. You would then click on the desired door icon and another flyout menu would appear showing the door sizes for selection for this particular door type. You often end up with many different door or window types and sizes in the element selection box on a large project which can become annoying if you only want one particlar size and there are 10 of one and 15 of another etc.

Remember it is a good idea to purge unused elements in a project after you have it established. This will get rid of unused types for doors and windows etc.
