We have a costumer who recently purchased Autocad Revit Architecture Suite 2008.
They already installed and activate the software. Autocad 2008 is running without problem.
But they have problem with Revit application. It won't load, even the spash screen is not shown.
We tried to uninstall and reinstall it. It works, but only until we restart the machine.
After restart/reboot, it won't load anymore.

We tried to install it on other machine, it works for a few days, but then it has the same problem.
I'm pretty sure that there is something wrong with their network, a virus or something.
I tried to search the technical support section in Autodesk website, but cannot find any articles about it.

Can you help me to find out what else might be wrong? Can it be hardware related problem?
I doubt it is the problem, since it works on identical workstation for a few days. But I might miss something.

If it is a virus related problem that might cause this, can you send me article about it?
Confincing IT guys that their network might have virus... is very hard, no way if I don't have such evident.
FYI, they use Kapersky anti virus.

Thanks in advanced,

Edwin

This is an issue that was supposed to be solved with the last build.  I have found this isnt always so.  What you need to do is start up "Task Manager" on your computer and in the "Applications" tab right click, then go to "New Task (Run...)".  Then just browse for it on your desktop or where ever you put your shortcut for RA2008.  This is the same for structural and MEP as well.  First off though make sure you have the current build of 2008.

It could simply be the anti-virus or firewall program not allowing you to open the progam. You would need to tell the program that Revit is allowed and see if it works. The other thing you need to consider is the system specs. Is the pc good enough to run Revit.

Well,Looks like this issue hasn't been fixed yet. It is Revit Architecture 2008, I believe it is the latest built.  I don't think it is firewall or antivirus. Even after we uninstall the anti virus, it did not work.

The PC spec is not the problem.  It did run well several times before this happened. Thanks for the input. What is it with starting from task manager anyway? What cause this? Because I think this is machine specific. It did not happen in other PC with different hardware.

Thanks,Edwin

Correct, it is not anti-virus or fire wall.  It is an issue with Autodesk.  They have been addressing this issue and have yet to figure out why or a solution.  Do you know how to start it through task manager?  That is the only way to start it up.  Autodesk said that this issue is effcting only about 1 percent of the RAC 2008 release, so thats why it seems to be machine specific, but we have many computers that are identical to the T, and some it works on and some it doesnt.  Let me know if you need help with running it through task manager.

I feel guilty that I jumped into conclusion that it's a virus problem Smile

Yes, sure I know how to start it through Task Manager. But of course, our costumer is not happy with this solution.

Thanks for your help.
