We're thinking about doing a complete forum overhaul here at Revitcity.com, and we need to know what you would like to see in a new forum. We're going to take suggestions and then start building from the ground up over the next few months. Hopefully we can unveil a new forum system by the end of spring. So...tell us what you like and don't like about the current forum, and what you would like to see in the next version.

I would really like to have bookmark capability to some of the forums I really like to get hold to. If not, any other formats which will enable me to group or organize my interested forum topics in a folder or something, that would be fine.

Are you talking about bookmarking specific threads or the forums themselves?
We only have 5 forums, it might be easier for us, and quicker for you if you bookmark the specific forums in your browser, or am I mis-understanding?

when you say bookmark, what kind of functionallity are you looking for, how would it work? Would you like to see the bookmarks listed in the "User Options" menu on the left?

I'll probably be asking a lot of questions on your comments, we want to design the best forum.

What actually I am looking for is to bookmark certain forum threads and not the forum themselves. There are times where we are not involved in some forum threads discussions but those forum threads are somehow useful for further reference in the future. Should I referred it as bookmark or hyperlink-shortcut?? It would be fine to have our fovourite threads shown on the user Options and It would be even better if we have our own authorization to organize them in folders (e.g like we organize our mail folder in Yahoo mail or organizing your favourite link via IE). Not too sure how many members like this idea, at least I would appreciated those functionality very much.

I think what ale02 is asking for is the ability to select a thread and save in your user profile, whereby you can navigate to this folder it and it lists all the threads you find most helpful... I'd like to see some more advanced tools when posting threads... For instance, polls, be able to attach multiple files at a time. Thumbnail previews of jpg images. A better curse word filter that doesn't pick up curses in common words... Maybe a thumbnail preview of the last family posted, similar with patterns, on the main home page... HTH.

I'd really like to see a time zone setting based on your location that would update the post times according to your location. It makes it very difficult at the moment to determine when something was posted. Also when replying to posts could the posts of the thread list in reverse order to make it easier to reply, rather than having to scroll to the bottom of the screen, read the thread scroll back up etc.

Good news would be: to be able to attach multiple files at a time, thumbnail previews of jpg images, no curse word filter, posts of the thread list in reverse order - tips from Mr Spot I find good. But what I really miss is a better search engine - that can use "advanced" search with AND eg. walls AND hjacobs - to be able to have a look on some good suggestions on walls. Now you have to use Google to search Revitcity. On Google you can find say 2 relevant links on: walls AND hjacobs - a Revitcity search will give you 299!!! Why not be able to search on a specific Forum., too? And the gallery images you should be able to search on contributor and date. And the PICO search engine on the whole site - I really do not trust! walls AND hjacobs gives me 5 irrelevant links - walls OR hjacobs gives me 766 links - not 299!!! What I also miss is all the good tips on Revitcity does not build some sort of Knowledge Data Base - the same questions are turning up again and again and the answers get lost. Some sort of FAQ about Revit. Let the one who says something good and usefull about eg walls have the possibility to caracterize the answer/suggestion as tips on WALLS - and some sort of FAQ is being built automatically. Because you cannot have a WALLS forum and a ROOFS forum and a ..... The one sending in a post to a Forum can have a drop-down list to choose words from to characterize the post - in the same way you are charactrizing your Familys - but not a compicated system - perhaps a drop down list with 10 different words/subjects will do. Another suggestion is try to make an easy way to make tutorials. Now most people I think this is to much work to make a tutorial. Perhaps one, two or three pictures with a little text to the pictures can make a short tutorial - if someone has come with a good advice on eg WALLS - it would be nice if you could telll this person -. we like you to do a SHORT tutorial so your nice will be preserved. Please... send a picture or two and a little text to Revicitys new SHORT tutorial section and we will all thank you... Hope you understand what I mean. A new section on Revitcity called the SHORT TUTORIAL section with fast and easy made tutorials/tips. Perhaps it is possible to do some sort of WIKI on REVIT? And everyone can be able to contribute to different words - and you can write something nice with some pictures on eg FOOTERS. Links? If I am writing like this http://www.google.com - I will make a link. But writing like this www.google.com - will it make a link? NO! Perhaps a small problem - and how to solve? google.com - will also take you to Google - but a program on a server cannot figure out it automatically - so the one giving the link must have some way to tell -. this a link - most people do not use http:// before writing something... And why not let the server make some XML-tagging? Post edited on 2005-07-05 19:15:46

What I mean with a short tutorial you can fnd at this adress: http://www.cadforum.cz/cadforum_en/qaID.asp?tip=4161 Just two pictures and a little text. So why not make a tutorial "forum" there you can upload some pictures one to three and a little text accompanying the pictures. And all the good tips on Revit in the Forums can be found in one place in a Knowledge.-Data-Bank....

1. Spellcheck and editing of prier posts and uploads 2. Faster loading pages. I currently use dialup Internet and they're rather slow.

A next button and a previous button in the Gallery then you are looking at a certain image to see the one following to it and the one before. Perhaps this can be done soon? Not waiting for the big Overhaul? Now you have to go to back to the gallery to choose the next image!

how bout this: sending an email to each user everytime somebody "replies" to something that you posted. just a thought. It might seem more efficient instead of having to visit your post every hour to see if somebody has helped you out with a current problem. Thanks

If I'm understanding correctly, this function already exists. Just above the submit button, check the box for notify via email or replies, and you will recieve an email whenever someone replies to that forum.

This should be working now, as well as user based searching on the gallery, families, and patters.
This forum is now using UBB code, so if you want to add urls and such you such you can...like this:

link to new search

Cool thanks for that. Do you think we could also get some way of sorting the search results?? For instance by date posted originally or last thread action? They seem to be a bit muddled up when i'm looking. Also if we could filter to only show threads less than 6 months old or something it may shorten the list...
