Hi all, I would to make two generic families. One for columns and another one for walls. But I want them to be as generic as possible, I mean that it's width and depth are parametrical values, so I could be able to add any column or wall of any dimensions (e.g column 320x637 mm). How I could achieve this? I'm a newbie in the Revit family editor, and it seems to me that I has to be very easy, but I don't know how. I've began with "Metric Column.rft" template. I've made an extrusion to add the geometry, but I don't know how to handle with the width and depth. Thanks in advance, Natxo

Neither of these need to be done with the family editor.

The column family is already build in and is fully parametric.  Just pick the column from your modeling tab and add a new type with the dimensions you want.  The height will be an instance parameter you can change when you place the column.

For walls, just pick one of the exiting walls, open its properties and create a new wall with the properties you want.

Hi again,

Thanks for your response, but  I need this to be done inline. I mean that I don't want to insert these columns and walls via the Revit user-interface, I need to be done via code with the .NET API.

So, that's why I would like to know if it's possible to define a totally parametric family and in instantiate time, define it's parameters.

Regards,

Natxo

Hey, are the "Generic Model" families able to host elements like doors, windows etc?

  • 756mb Nvidia 9600GSO 256bit
  • 6gb Kingston RAM 800mz DDR2

REVIT has different host based families.  Some are wall based like doors and windows normally are.  Obviously, since they are wall based, they will noy work as you want.  BUT ... you can build special familes ("doors - windows"Winking that could be face based and they could be hosted accordingly.
