Is there a way to create a component that will take on the full size of a host.  What I am trying to do is create something that will designate the occupancy use and I can attach to a floor that will change when a floor plate changes size.  The idea is that I can give the component a color to associate it with an occupancy type and be able to get a square footage calc out of it as well.

 Thanks

This sounds like you may more luck with project parameters and playin with the Room parameters in a project than making a family component.  I would look into that approach before spending much more time with fmaily components to achieve that.

You can then set up an Area color scheme to indicate your occupancy types and a room annotation to indicate occupancy loads and type.

You fell victim to one of the classic blunders. The most famous is never get involved in a land war in asia, but only slightly less well known is this! Never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line!
