Is there an easy or any way to convert a component/ family from metric dimensions to standard inch dimensions?

Settings-->Project Units Revits dimensions are smart also. In metric or imperial you can type dimensions in the opposite format and revit will do the conversion instantly. HTH.

"also is there a way to get the dimensions within the component to switch from reading metric to inches?" As I showed above... GOTO Settings-->Project Units Change your Length, Area & Volume units as required... Doing this automatically updates the model.
