I already posted this under the Revit Structure forum but I figured I'd post it here since I'm open for suggestions. For addendums and sketches we started duplicating as dependant. Then drag the view onto a new sketch border. But after adjusting the crop to focus on the changed area, if the crop crossed a dimension it automatically hides it. Is there a toggle to turn this off or an easy work-around? I thought about drawing detail lines and arrows but because it's dependant those detail lines and arrows show on the final view. I hope this makes sense. If not, then let me know and I'll try to explain this better. Thanks in advance.

There is a 'Fake Dimension' family available for download that can be used as a workaround. I run into this problem when splitting a section into multiple sections. If the break crosses a dimension, it hides the text and is not friendly to moving. The Fake Dimension is available in the downloads section. HTH.

You fell victim to one of the classic blunders. The most famous is never get involved in a land war in asia, but only slightly less well known is this! Never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line! |

<rkitect> Thanks I managed to find it under one of your previous posts. For some reason I couldn't find anything under the downloads section. Anyways! Thanks again! JB

When I have this problem, I drag the dimension text along the dimension line to an area I know will remain after the window is split. Sometimes, I have to rejoin my view first in order to find the text.

<WWHub> This doesn't quite work, When you crop using a dependant view as soon as the crop crosses the dim line the whole dimension (witness lines, ticks/arrows, text) disappears. But Thanks

Sorry, I guess I didn't read your post correctly. I jumped to the conclusion that you were talking about the crop in split views - not the perimeter crop. Now that I've re-read your post, what good is the dimension if you don't know what it goes to. All dimensions have a starting and ending point and you need to see both and REVIT uses this rule. I understand what you are doing and why. I think your only work around is to place text and linework where your dimension was. Sorry ....

WWHub, Sorry, I wasn't trying to be condescending. Appologies if you thought I was. Cheers!

I beleive I understand what you were refering to. Let me explain what I was trying to do. I have a plan showing the layout of joists. I've then taken a dimension with tiny text (cause you can't override dim text) and shown the span of the joists. Then with text, I've written the type of joists and the spacing. eg: 750 DP OWSJ @ 1200 MAX. The dimension line is very long because all the joists are the same along that line. But if I crop across that line it disappears. This is really for an Addendum which is supposed to be snapshot of the actual drawing so that is why I'm concerned. Thanks for your help anyways, I appreciate it! JB

Wow, I gather what you're doing now. I would have imagined that would be a standard feature for RS. I would definitely try out AUGI to see what people are saying over there.
