Could someone explain to me how I might be able to eliminate (or hide) a door on my schedule without deleting it from the plan?

Filter it out using a parameter it already has or add a new one... ie all doors <> (your door number)

schedules are one of the best things in revit, and the more you get to experience them, the better control you have in your documentation. your question and the answer is a perfect example of the power inherent in these things. we have learnt to always put a z or something similar in front of any tag that you may want to filter from a door/window schedule. such as in my work, with renos and extensions to any building, we often do not schedule all the existing joinery. then filter out 'z'. but a trick - we now include in our template a schedule for most things that has no filter. ie all drawing sheets, all doors, all windows. that way you can see them, plus find them if you are looking for a window hidden somewhere strange. go revit.

Another PM in our firm decided to build all of her restroom stalls out of 1" metal walls with 1" metal doors because she doesn't like the stall families we use. This worked fine (as we don't do interior elevations of our stalls), except that they appeared in the door schedule. The filtering mentioned above worked great. I just had her put the word "STALL" in the comments parameter of those doors and filter out doors with "STALL" in the comments. Problem solved, except for the not using our standard families issue. Similarly, as a hint, I use this method for supplemental drawings that I generate in Revit. By filtering out Sheets with SUPP in the Sheet Number field (we number them SUPP 1, SUPP 2, etc.), they don't screw up the Drawing List on my coversheet. Which brings me to a wishlist item...Dependent Views of Sheets for Supplemental creation. But, that's another post I guess.
