My question is when I create stairs is there a way to not have the railing in the wall. when I am in sketch mode of creating a stair and I make the boundary to align with the adjacent walls and I finish the sketch and view the stairs the railing is in those adjacent walls. Is there a step that I am missing? Is there a way to sketch the stairs and not have the railing go into the adjacent walls?

I think, but not for sure, if you look at your stairs your stringer is in your wall as well...thats where the railing is usually hosted over. If you are ok with your stringer being built into your wall, then shift the offset of your balester to make it longer, then your railing should stick out more. This is in the railing properties.
