I have a barrel vault with a barrel vault dormer. I am trying to cut the opening in the main vault for the dormer but with no luck. The two arches intersecting are a problem??? Any suggestions????? teb

How are you trying to make each vault? Are they cut walls, arched ceilings, or what?

I am creating the dormer barrel vault roof with the roof extrusion tool. I created the main barrel vault the same way. Does this help?

Did you try the "Join Geometry" comand, or the "Join/Unjoin Roofs" comand? If you have and it still hasnt worked. You might try massing and then do Roof by Face.

I have tried the join roofs and join geometry. The roofs do join but it does not cut the opening in the main barrel vault at the dormer. I have tried the dormer opening command but with no success. I guess due to the curvred edges where the barrels intersect??? Why are the openings not automatically created when you add the dormers? I am not familiar with your other suggestion of massing and roof by face? Thanks for your input

Revit 2008. I have worked on Revit 9.1 for about 4 months (still learning!) but recently loaded 2008 which is what i am working in now.

Is that what you are looking for? Let me know, and I will explain how I did it.

Yes. I have two barrel vaults (in a "T" shape) intersecting as your drawing shows. I am also trying to add a barrel vault dormer as discussed and would be the same proceedure I assume. I will look for your explanation.

Ok, I will explain it really simplisticly first if you still have troubles let me know. I couldnt find a way to do this with roofs, what I ended up doing was creating an implace family that was a roof family. This way you can draw the extrusions that you want and then void out the parts that you dont want. Doing this all as one family. So just use the Solid and Void forms of an implace family to draw what you want it to look like.
