The beams in my structure extend over the top of the columns or the top of the walls. Seems a simple enough situation but I'm finding it difficult to model. Currently I'm manually setting the top of column elevation to match the underside of the beam flange. However this means I have to manually adjust the top of the column every time I change beam depths. I'm also finding that Revit doesn't want to recognize the column as the beam support in this situation. Walls are even worse, I can manually change the top of wall elevation but visually the wall still extends to the top of the beam but only at the beams - again I'm assuming this is because that's how Revit is assuming the wall is supporting the beam. I'm afraid to see what's going to happen when I try to take it into RISA. Any suggestions?

You can set your columns to attach to the beams, this way if they change size they will automatically adjust. Just select the column and select attach. Haven't experienced that with walls before might be different in structural. In Architecture beams adjust to walls not the other way around. Can you post a screenshot of what's occuring? HTH.

Thanks for the tip with the columns, that seems to have taken care of it. I've attached a section showing the behavior of the wall. I initially split the wall just to the left of the beam and tried to set the top of the short segment equal to the bottom flange but for what ever reason it doesn't work at the beam itself. I lengthened the short segment to better show what's happening at the beam. I tried to attach the wall but it wouldn't let me select the beam. I also tried the align comment. Thanks for you help.

I have the same problem and I cannot understand how Revit adjusts column height to a beam: I have 3 columns in a row and a beam that rest on top of the columns. I can use ATTACH on the column in the middle to attach it to the underside of the beam and it works fone, but I cannot make columns that are placed on the both ends of the beam to attach to the underside of the beam. In this case I get an error message stating "The column and target are joined, remove that join before attaching them". If I try and lengthen the beam so that it stretches past the column then I can attach the column to the beam, but then I have problems with aligning of the beam to outer edge of the beam. I hope somebody can help me with this problem. Thanks in advance!
