1 - With room tags are they there as a way to name rooms for room area calculations or as the actual text that will print on your final plan?  On my plans I will usually have the room name and then underneath it the general room size if presentation drawing or the floor finish if construction plans, e.g.:

 Living                  or       Bed 1

(3000x4000)                (carpet)

Do I do this with plain text or can I modify the room tag to contain what ever info I need?  I have attached some images showing what I normally do in ACAD and is what im trying to mimick in REVIT.

What is the correct method for achieving this?

2 - I have a survey of the block of land I need.  I usually take the info I need in ACAD and add it to my floor plan if im doing a combined Site and Ground floor plan, however I normally scale what I need to 1:200 (or smaller) and add info I need when doing seperate site and ground floor plans.

In revit I have imported the survey DWG file and put it on the site plan but it shows up on my ground floor plan no matter what.  How do I go about using the survey as an underlay so I can use it for my site setout but then scale it to 1:200 on its own plan that does not show up on my ground floor plan which will be 1:100?

It appears as an underlay on my first floor plan but cant remove it from my ground fllor plan.

Again what is the correct method in revit for doing this kind of thing?

3 - In ACAD I used to dimension in the model space, then as it progressed was told (but never did due to my old ways) to put all my dimensions and text on the paperspce or what transformed into layouts (sheets) and not in the actualy model.

I was never comfortable with this as whenever I moved my model or copied it to adjust some things but keep the original, the notes and dimensions did not move on the layout (paperspace).

In revit what is the correct method or intended method of dimensioning and annotating the drawing?  Do I put all my dimensions and notes straight onto the relevant floor plans or elevations or is there a paperspace/layout equivalent where I should be placing the dimensions and text?

Any help you can give me will be much appreciated.

Thanks

Question 1 - You can have your room takes do whatever you want them to do - you just have to have a parameter to read associated with the room.   You can even place two or more different room tags in the same room!  Maybe one has the name / number and another has the floor/ceiling finish?  Have fun!

Question 2 - When you import your site plan, did you pick "current view only" from the first GUI where you selected the file.  Even if you did import it in other views, you can turn it off using your VG settings.  (VG / Import Categories)

Question 3 - Forget the AutoCAD problems.  In REVIT, you do everything in the view that you are using.  It will always scale correctly and there will be no floating dimensions!  Recognize that you MUST have a different view for every view placed on a sheet....  You may think darn - I have to do this dimension / note / detail line in every view!  NOT TRUE!  If you create a duplicate view (like a plan), you can copy with detailing.  If you add things later, just select them, copy them to clipboard, change to your other view(s) and pick paste aligned same place... VOILA!

For the first and third questions. There is no way for Revits room tag to know the dimensions nor the floor material, that I know of.  You can make a Room Tag that has an instance parameter so you can change it to whatever you want.  Or...for the carpet one, you could create a Floor Tag with a instance parameter above where you can put the room name, it would recognize the carpet and that would be linked, but nothing else would be.

My oppinon on text, annotations, and demensions are that they should be done by activating the view on the sheet and doing it on the sheet.  Unless you are using Revit 2008 and have Duplicated a view as a dependent, if you use "Deplicate as Dependent" you should be safe either way you go.Grant Doherty

Looks as though I should have read all the way through the posts first.  I didnt think there was a way to make a Room Tag link in the floor material or the dimensions of a room.  The dimension of a room I figured because I dont really know how it would find the dimesions of a room that isnt retangular.  Secondly the oppion about text, anotations, and such because how we have our company standards set up.  Text is view specific which is the reason I say just activate it on the sheet, but if you locate the right plan in the project browser you can put it right on the view.  It really depends on how your company has things set up.

If your room has a parameter that shows the floor material, you can make a room tag that will show it..... Most of the time, we only schedule the floor material in the room finishes as a instance parameter which you fill out in the room properties.  Any parameter that you associate with the room can be included in a "room tag".  You just have to set it up.

I doubt that your AutoCAD tag figured out your (3000x4000) room size.  Same thing here - just add a room size parameter to your room definition and it too will schedule and or can be in a room tag.
