I would appreciate assistance in converting a rafter to truss roof in Revit--- In some roofs under Properties there is a drop down menue to select truss vs rafter. In other roofs the selection box is halftone and not selectable. I haven't been able to figure out why that happens. Anyone with expertise in this area would be appreciated. Thanks. Barry

That check box is only for telling Revit how your roof reacts to your walls. When you select truss, the underside of the roof thickness intersects with the core of the exterior part of the wall. Basically it overshoots the whole wall. With "rafter" the underside of the roof aligns with the inside edge of the wall instead of the exterior edge. Not sure why it's not selectable in some instances.

Thanks Frameman--- My problem is that the elevation lines for the truss roof are located in the middle of the fascia board and the roof that I can't change from rafter to truss has the inferior part of the fascia lined up with the elevation line---- There is no base offset in the element properties dialog and the drawing looks confusing because of the different relation of the elevation lines to the fascia---- your help is appreciate-- Barry

Hmm, something's not clicking in my head. What I'm thinking is that you have done a roof by extrusion and you have in your elevation view the level line going through your drawing in a place you don't want it. If this is correct, you can make a quick section view where your rafter or truss comes down to your wall top. This should, depending on your visibility settings, give you a section view with your levels. From here I'm guessing you want to raise or lower your roof so that it looks cleaner which you can do easily by selecting the roof and using the move command to raise or lower the roof as needed. If I'm off, I guess I would need some type of screen shot for clarification and I can help from there. If you used any different method for your roof creation than "by footprint" or "by extrusion" just let me know. From what it sounds, clicking rafter or truss is irrelevant in your case. This option only affects where the roof is located in relation to your wall. It can be misleading for new Revit users thinking it's actually a rafter or a truss which is a whole new thread.
