I see the resource made available by Scott Hopkins called "Inchworm". It sounds great, but most of the time, I am working on a laptop that does not have a numeric keypad. Well, it does, but it's hard to use.
My question is this: Are there any similar programs that would do the same type of thing for laptop users or is there any way humanly possible to make Revit take inch input rather than feet?
Thanking you in advance,
Chymos

I have changed my default project units to fractional inches on a couple of projects, it is located on the settings menu -> project units ->length ->fractional inches (or decimal inches) whichever. Hope this helps!

Thank you for your response. I tried that too, but that makes all of the dimensions convert to inches too. I would like for everything in the project to stay the same format, but have Revit accept "6" and "Enter" as 6 inches instead of 6 feet.

This is an old string I know, but thanks Vanessa - what a lifesaver. 13 years on autocad, I cannot learn to enter inches - I had not seen this solution. Perfect, thanks again.

I am a veteran architectural desktop user who has had similar problems in that transition to revit. I would like to see the right button on the mouse able to be used as the enter button similar to arch desktop. On arch desktop you can enter a command and just hit the mouse button to execute.
Also, I think revit is onto something allow you to enter a number and it automatically recognizes it as feet. However; I think an improvement would be to allow users to select either the left or right hand button on the mouse for the enter command. example. you click on a dimension and it becomes editable. now you enter say 3, if you click on the right button it is 3 feet, if you click on the left button it is 3 inches. much quicker than finding the " on the keyboard each time.
thanks

You can enter inches in the form of:
0 6
for 6"
or 0 6.125 for 6 1/8"
or 0 6 1/8
There is no need to hit the " key as long as the first number is FEET then SPACE then INCHES where feet can be any length including zero

thanks Tom for this tip.
Now I've been using AutoCAD for 20 years and ADT for 4 years...Revit is a must and thank you for having it in Feet rather than inches. Especially when you deal with Areas calculation make it more simple and efficient. Nobody in the AEC market is looking or expecting having square inches like you can see in ACAD verticals....
hopefully one day we all going to move to the decimal system and there you'll be able to chose your unit format! That is for another future...

Expanding on Tom's advice this will also work for
0 46
will enter as 46" and then revit will work out how many feet this actually is etc and convert it as required.

I would highly recommend people to try the inchworm program. Even though I didn't find it to be very problematic having to specify inches, I did find that inchworm saved me some time.
