To all Revit 2008 users. Our office is soon switching over from revit 9.1 to 2008 and we would like to avoid as many problems as possible with the switch over! I realise it will take time getting use to the new program and its feutures but that is not the real issue for our firm! We would like to know what steps we must take in avoiding crashes, callout problems etc. Before installing 2008. Our firm cant afford to have any set backs at the moment as we are running on full capacity and the new switch over has to go really smooth for us. Any help or technical support out there will be considered a great asset to our firm in obtaining a smooth transition between 9.1 and 2008! We would like to know things like: "Do we have to upgrade our hardware?" & "Do we have to upgrade any other software?" & "what else can we do to our network to support 2008?" & " are there any graphics cards that runs smootly with 2008?" & " what should our memory requirements be?" etc. I think you get the picture - we have allot of questions that have to be answered before doing the switch over! Thanks for ant replies!

here is some advise from Steve Stafford at the RevitOpEd blog if you are using a network license . A little reminder. If you are upgrading to the latest release you must also upgrade the FlexLM software that manages your licensing. The required version is supplied on the DVD that you receive from Autodesk. The current version required is 11.4.0.0 and Revit will not work with earlier versions. If you don't upgrade it first, frustration will ensue! Good Luck! . Here's a link to the license manager if you can't find it HTH

Just run a bit of a test on a typical workstation to ensure you hardware is okay with the new graphics improvememts. Also, I'd suggest you ensure you have the latest video drivers on all your workstations.

Thanks guys! One more question! Is the 4Gig Ram a big issue or not? And if it is, it means we have to upgrade to Windows vista cause xp pro doesnt support more than 3Gig? ( I read this somewhere on a forum post not sure if its correct?) Thanks again!

The 4G of Ram was the best thing the IT did for me! I can run RS2008 and Autocad2008 (our architects havent switched to Revit, they are sissys) at the same time with no slow down.

so far I have not had any problems like most people seem to have. I have just 2 gb's and don't notice anything out of the ordinary. I run multiple graphics programs at the same time. I have finally been able to enable OpenGL with no problems with that either. I've only had one crash so far, but was able to do a recovery file. So far so good.

The good thing about Revit is that there is no learning to do when you upgrade. It looks and feels the same. Apart from the obvious new features, you will find many small improvements. Switch over had no problems, but check with your 'smallest' computer. Old and new does not match so this is not a gradual process. All or nothing I am running with 1G and it is fine. Give me time for a cup of coffee from time to time :-)
