Back in 2005, when I was introduce to Revit, I was told a few versions of the story behind Revit.

You see the salesman here in Malaysia told us stories to impress  how good was Revit and bla...bla.

We have no idea where and how Revit was originated till it was market by Autodesk here. So when you heard Autodesk and AutoCAD - it must be good.

One version,  Revit was originally designed by the Russian and sold to the American.

Another version,  Revit was originally designed as a software to design aircraft.

How true are these stories?

What other version of the story do you guys heard about Revit?

What happened to Revit 1.0?

Anyone care to entertain us from a hard day work? Thanks.

From what I have been told Revit was originally designed as a software to design aircraft, and was baught out by Autodesk around version 5 I belive.  So Revit 1.0 was pre Autodesk buy out so probably isn't very well known and talked about.  The sources that I have heard these from I consider reliable sources, so I would say they are true, but can one really ever be 100pct sure?  As for the part about being designed by Russia and sold to America I have never hurd that so I have no idea.

Revit was designed for architetecture from beginning by some ex solid works programers or founders i think.

After one of these guys was having a home designed and saw how far architectural software was behind other industries, he saw an opportunity and the rest is history.

Sounds like some of you guys aren't also members of Augi.  You'll find some of the founders of Revit are quite frequent visitors and constributors.

Mr.Spot and alec02, thanks for the links to the story.

Then I also heard that Autodesk paid a huge sum of money like 100M or 300M in cash for Revit.

I remember reading somewhere that in those day Revit was sold with a bookshelf for existing ADT user.

The idea is to put ADT on the shelf! Can't tell if the story is true, though.

Anyway, you have a nice day.
