Hi all, I use revit to keep our office floor plans up to date, multiple floors across multiple states. Im looking to use a tag/label/? to number the workstations or storage cabinets etc to assist with a restack. I would like to be able to add a label/tag to each position on the floor plan, preferrably with sequential numbering being automatic as there are over 700 seats at each site. I tried creating tags/labels etc but couldnt achieve a result. I know that doors/windows etc will do this, can I number any item on the plan this way? Im not fussed about them appearing in a table( that would be a bonus) but just getting the numbering done is a start. One further thing, the plans are imported from Autocad, not drawn in revit so they are not objects as such. Im using revit 2008. Any assistance greatly appreciated. Thanks Greg

As a past facility manager, I understand what you are looking for. The problem is that you want to turn a dumb drawing into a smart one.... Good News! Since this is an AutoCAD drawing, you don't care about preserving the integrity of some families. Just create a door (or window) family that has a type parameter to match every item you want to tag. Use a symbollic line circle or something to show up when you put it in. (You want to be able to delete it). Now start inserting them in the order you want them marked & with the proper tag. As you insert them, pick the correct type (or come back and change afterwards). VOILA

Thanks very much for your reply. I have tried your suggestion however door and window tags are associated with items within walls. I want to plot these numbers all over the place, not just near the walls (which I dont actually have because the drawing is imported, they are just lines, not model objects. Perhaps I am missing something. Thanks Greg

Duh ... sorry, I must have been brain dead yesterday. Of course you can't do it with windows or doors because you don't have any walls. But another automatic numbering element is rooms. You just have to create a "Room" to tag. That could do with area separation lines in a closed shape. That "room" can have the parameters you need. The advantage of this is that the "room" can be colored. ... ps . the room could take on the shape of the element too.
