How are you at Photoshop? I can't think of an easy way to do this in Revit. The plant materials in Accurender don't have a transparancy setting (that I could find). Here's what I recommend. Render your scene without trees. Then render the same scene, same view, same everything, but with your trees turned on. Then in Photoshop copy the w/trees rendering on top of the w/o trees rendering. Then adjust the transparancy of the layer that has your trees on it. I use a technique similar to this to add lines to my renderings. First I render the scene, then I change the view to Hidden Lines and Export Image. Using the magic wand (in Photoshop) I select and erase the white background leaving only the Linework. I copy the Hidden Lines image on top of the Rendered image and set the transparancy of the Hidden Lines layer to about 40%. This gives you a great rendering with lines that pop out and define your building. I have done this with trees in the rendering and turn the trees off for the hidden line view, this defines the building edges behind the trees. Give this a try if you use Photoshop. I think that you will be happy with the results.

Alternatively, why not render your trees with fewer or skinner leaves? Copy any tree and using plant editor under plant library, edit leaf, opacity map. It doesn't look artistic but gives me what I need...to show the building.

Another way is to create your own artistic trees etc. I have made my own up using basic solids to give a conceptual feel and then applied a transparent material to the render...works quite well Justin www.revitup.co.za

On revit 2013 it's not a problem to set transparency on trees by overriding view settings of eth element or planting category. http://www.archigrafix.com/revit-trees.html is a good example of the effect of doing that.
