Hi everyone, Our firm is starting using Revit, and we are 4 people trying to understand the basic office standards for a succesful project team. We have been discusing about if we should delete the local files every day and get new copies from central the next time we work on those files. I am looking for your thoughts. Do you have any other Standard sugestions? Thanks. Matias

I recommend starting of each Monday morning with a fresh local copy of the central file. On Friday afternoon when the day is done everyone but one person should save to central. The one last person should be designated as the last person to save to central, and they should choose the 'compact central file' option. This option is only available when you choose save to central from the File menu [don't simply use the STC icon] Compacting the Central file on Friday will ensure that your fresh start local copies on Monday will be nice and compacted. As the central file bloats during the week [as all databases do] the STC compaction of Friday will clean all of the bloat up.

Why would you get a new local file???? We have been using REVIT for more than 6 months with multiple people working with local files and a central file. We have never had a problem. Whenever you save, REVIT automaticaly reloads latest. If you open the file in the morning and you think some things may have changed since you closed, you simply reload latest.

I have found that sometimes if there is a large amount of information to be exchanged to reload latest, revit will crash. Ithis often happens after the file has been compacted, or a recent deadline when people have worked long after I last saved and closed. For this reason, I have found making a new local file at least once a week works better.
