I am trying to attach an aluminum slider (fleetwood) window to steel columns in my project. When I try to insert the windows, an error message comes up, telling me that there are no walls to attach the window to. I have attached a photograph of one of our projects to explain what I am trying to do. Very frustrated! any advice can help.

 thanks!

The window or door family you are using is a "wall hosted' element meaning it needs a wall present to insert itself into.  You can make a non-hosted door or window family, but that is not something to undertake if you are new to Revit.  You best bet may be to 'cheat' it by actually placing a wall between yur columns and then insert then insert the sliding door into the wall.  If you work it correctly the wall can completely disappear leaving only the door.
