When creating an in place family is it ok to copy them around? Or is an "in place family" only meant to be drawn once and not copied or moved? Some people in our office who are just learning Revit are complaining about the fact that when creating a family they do not have the building to reference by. So they want to do an "in plcae family" for an object and copy it around. This seems fine but when the sketch was edited it moved one of the copied objects back to the plane the origional was origionally drawn on. Has anyone else had this problem or have any recomendations!

Basically the rule i go by is, If it is going to be used more than once it should be an external family. As by copying an in-place family it is not associated to the other object. That is; change one and the other will not change! I'd cut and paste the geometry from the in-place family to an external family and use that.
