Does anyone know how to model valley members in a timber frame roof? I have a timber frame roof system with two intersecting unequal pitch roofs. I am trying to accurately model the valley members because they will be visible from the finished space below. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

I have responded to a very similar question on AUGI I believe. Give me a few moments and I'll try to find it for you. I'm not sure if there was a complete answer though. Unequal roof pitches will make it a little more difficult. You will have to make a valley rafter/beam with voids in the top. Then you would have to make some type of angle constraints to adjust for the separate roof pitches.

Framerman, if you could locate the link you were referring to, that would be very helpful. Thanks very much.

Create a 3D view where only the roof and structural members are visible. Rotate the view so you can see the underside of the roof. Now use the "3D Snapping" option in the options bar to draw beams along the valleys and in about 30 seconds (depending on the complexity of the roof) you have your framing.

I have to say I'm almost embarassed I didn't know about that. Nice pickup on that jterrell. I found the thread but it doesn't tell much so there's not really any bother for it. From my understanding, valleys from timber frames have a notch in the top of the beam. You would still need to create a family or an in place family if you want it to show this way. If it's not a big deal, then jterrell's method works pretty darn good.
