I woork for a door manufactory. We draw in Revit to count doors and wall panels and frames. One of our major clients also uses Revit. They draw Recangles that share sides to make rooms. I can't figure how to count the panels in a shared rectangle. I have to completely redraw his whole Revit drawing in Revit just to count. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Huh?????? Revit is not a CAD program so if you have a client using it as such to 'draw' rectangles for rooms then there is nothing much to do other than shake your head in disbelief. The whole theory of Revit is that it is a database that is optimized to model buildings. If there is no model, then you have no database and would have to create one from scratch which means properly modeling the building not 'drawing' it.
