We work on very huge master plans for industrial distribution centers. we are a 100% revit firm.
The problem arises when calculating Square Footages and acerages  of open aress, impervious surfaces, right of ways etc for the buildings in a Master plan. I know that most of the Revit users work on excel and then import the file into Revit.
but when we have to change orientation of building or add more parking or open space the calcualtions have to be done again.
is there a a method in Revit or any other software that can act as an interactive tool with yr masterplan
For example after calculating the areas if there are some major changes, can the calculations change with the physical change made to the masterplan and vice versa.
I am looking for something that would be more interactive and would make my life easier.
any opinions and suggestions r welcome.

Area plans with some custom parameters and key schedules could help you out.  Area plans are good at analyzing large chucks of space and then adding up those areas based on properties you assign the areas.  Area plans have a built-in bias toward doing BOMA area calculations, but you can simply define your own area types and ignore the built-in BOMA ones.  Area plans though cannot account for slopes of sites, so as long as you can live with a flat projection of the surface they might work for you.
See the Revit help file for more information on them.
