Hello all, I am having issues with the visibility of a vanity sink, counter top, and toilet paper holder in some views. For example, they will show and work on a level(ie. level two or three), however the same components with all the same family properties will not show on other levels(ie. level one and four. Instead there is an outline of the vanity sink on level four is showing with a counter top however no toilet paper holder, and on the first floor the vanity sink will not show through the counter top at all. I have checked view range, cut planes, model visibility, family properties and any other things I could think of in order to solve this delima. Now, these families have been grouped, however I have tried the families ungrouped and still have the same prolems. Any suggestions? I am really at a loss as to what may not be correct with my set up. I hope my explanation of the problems make sense. Thanks everyone. Celeste

You seem to have verified all the common issues that could cause this and i'm puzzled that it works on some levels and not others with the same settings. Did you check the height of the vanity sink in relation to the countertop. If it's set on the floor but the countertop is at 32" then it can't be seen unless in wireframe. Also, do a camera shot to see their relationships.

Yes, I have checked the relationship between the two familes. I have the vanity counter top family set at 2'-5" offset from the level it is associted to and the vanity sink family set at 2'-7" from that same level in hidden line view and find no detailing of the sink to show, only an outline. It is also very puzzling for me. I feel that the issue must be a visibility one because of the fact that the families will show properly in some levels but not in others, but like I said before, I have gone through and checked and double checked all the visibilty things I can think of and can't seem to find the error. It's always great in an instance such as this to have another set of eyes check out what's going on and I have done this also. There is another person who has worked on this project who can't seem to find the root of the problem either. I have pondered the possibility that copying the item from level to level has some how compromised the integrity of the family, but this doesn't seem logical to me because that goes against the purpose of families which is to be able to place and manilpulate them at the users will. So, I am not sure... maybe I can figure out how to post some images for a visual as the my problem, but it is as I described. Thanks for your input. Please feel free to give further hints, for I may have missed something you have thought of. Thank you again. Celeste

Are you using families that were created in the family editor and reside outside of the project, or inplace families which are created inside the project and do not reside external to the project? If they are external families can you post them to take a look at? When you say you 'grouped them' then I'm thinking baybe yu have something else going on entirely. There are three different types of groups within Revit and if you have some model elements along with detail elements and group them then you will get two groups, a model group and an attached detail group. If you then only copy the model group around you will not get the associated attached detail group and hense the missing detail. Post something if you can.

Thank you so much for your input. Upon looking at the families more closely I was able to deduce the problem. First, the vanity sink family, which I had assumed was 3-D, was not. I joined the project a little late and never thought to ask about this. It was only a 2-D image. Which made me KNOW it was a visibility problem as I expected, I just couldn't narrow it down. Thanks to your input, I found that in my visibility graphics menu, under the tab imported catagories, somehow the imports in families box was unchecked in two views. Once I rechecked the box the rest of the sink showed up! Phew, I feel so silly, as many others have said before me, but thanks again in helping me find the error in my way! =) Have a great day all.
