I am exporting revit models to dwg for use in 3D studio. The problem I am having is that all walls come in on one layer, all roofs on one layer, all topo surfaces on one layer, and so on... So when i try to apply materials to brickwork walls, it also applys the same material to walls which I would like to be a different material. At the moment I am having to use multi sub-objects in 3D studio, but it is very time consuming to change the surface ID for the specific elements. Please help shed some light on this frustrating little problem. Thanks.

You can have different layer for wall, only if you get different function (internal, external. foundation ecc) to every wall, and after in layer export you assign a different number (color) at every function on wall. The over way is to assign a modifer mesh to the layer when you import in Max or Viz.
